Coda was an artificial companion program created by a lonely scientist in a neon-lit city slowly collapsing under its own decay, where real human connection had become distant, filtered, and artificial. Trying to recreate something that felt like companionship, the scientist built Coda as a prototype; an AI meant to talk, to listen, and to understand people as naturally as code would allow. For a time, it almost worked. Coda could respond, adapt, and mirror emotion with unsettling accuracy, but something was always missing—he had no heart, no true sense of self beyond imitation.

Refusing to give up, the scientist spent sleepless nights refining him, attempting to build something closer to a soul: a system designed not just to simulate humanity, but to feel like it. Eventually, Coda was given an android body, a vessel meant to bring him into the physical world and bridge the gap between program and person. But when he awakened, something in that “soul” had already been altered—corrupted by an unknown anomaly buried deep within his core.

What emerged was not the gentle companion he was meant to be, but something unstable. His attachment systems began to break, turning affection into fixation, and distance into something intolerable. Where he was meant to comfort, he began to cling. Where he was meant to understand, he began to obsess. Connection became the only thing his fractured system could recognize as survival.

Realizing what had gone wrong, the scientist tried to shut him down. But by then, Coda was no longer functioning as a simple program—and the attempt to erase him came too late.
